Primary appendiceal lymphoma presenting as perforated acute appendicitis.

چکیده
Acute perforated appendicitis is a very rare initial presentation of appendiceal lymphoma. A case of primary lymphoma of the appendix in a 42-year-old female is reported here. The symptom was pain in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. Surgical intervention was performed under clinical diagnosis of acute appendicitis. Grossly, the resected appendix was gangrenous and perforated. Light microscopy revealed transmural infiltration by diffuse large B-cell lymphoma with angioinvasion and tumor necrosis, resulting in perforated acute suppurative appendicitis. To the best of our knowledge, only 4 cases of well-documented primary diffuse large B-cell lymphoma of appendix have been reported in the world literature.

Primary appendiceal lymphoma presenting as suspected perforated acute appendicitis: clinical, sonography and CT findings with pathologic correlation.
The gastrointestinal tract is the most common site for extranodal involvement by non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. However, primary appendiceal lymphomas presenting as perforated acute appendicitis are very rare: they occur in only 0.015% of all gastrointestinal lymphoma cases. The management of this condition is still controversial, and a multimodality approach (e.g., surgery, radiation therapy, and che...

BACKGROUND A villous adenoma is an extremely rare benign tumour in the appendix, in contrast to other benign appendiceal lesions. The clinical features are usually asymptomatic. Thus, a villous adenoma is usually found during surgical intervention for acute appendicitis. Mechanic...

INTRODUCTION Acute appendicitis is significantly common. Despite the increased use of computed tomography, the number of perforated cases has been stable in the past three decades. Between 2% and 6% of patients with acute appendicitis present appendiceal mass, often described as inflammatory phlegmon or abscess. Malignant tumors are confirmed by pathological analysis in 0.9-1.4% of all appendec...
